Beauty, Uncensored: My Secrets, Revealed!

I’ve spent a lifetime trying out creams and sprays and powders and products, and I now have a few beauty “secrets” I swear by. Since Lord knows I can’t keep a secret, I’m going to share a few of my favorites with you. Here goes …
Ardell Duralash Flare Short Lashes
Oprah is the one who convinced me to try individual fake lashes. Once I saw the difference in her face after she pulled off her fake lashes on her show, I went out, bought my own set, and have been using them ever since.
I use Ardell Duralash Flare Short Lashes, which are available in any drugstore. Whenever I want to look hawt, I put a few of these on the outside edge of my lashes, and get instant glamour. They don’t look all fakity-fake, either. Practice a few times with these, and you’ll have the look down in no time.

M.A.C. Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation
It just doesn’t get any better than Studio Fix. This powder covers as well as any foundation but feels like a powder. I put it on with a brush by day for light coverage and use the applicator sponge if I want a more “flawless” nighttime look. I will never, ever, ever use a bottle of foundation again!

Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs
I haven’t worn a pair of pantyhose in years, and this is why. Rub a little Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs onto your legs, and you’ll have smooth, flawless gams, just like a movie star. It covers up everything from shaving nicks to varicose veins and looks completely natural (just don’t go too dark with the spray!). Hint: In a pinch, I put on lotion first and then a little bit of cheap foundation on my legs. That works almost as well.

L'Oreal Sublime Bronze ProPerfect Airbrush Self Tanning Mist
I am in love with the new spray-on self tanners, particularly L’Oreal Sublime Bronze. The self tanner goes on in a fine mist, eliminating lotion streaks and stains on my palms and fingernails, and I can even reach my back without enlisting the help of my husband. The color is natural looking. I use it three or four times a week in the summertime, but don’t tell!

Bronzer as Blush
I have yet to find a blush that doesn’t look totally fake. So instead, I use a light bronzer as blush. I especially love Physician’s Formula bronzers because they have about a million different varieties to choose from at Walgreens, and they are all have a few different shades in each compact. I can go for a sunkissed look and put a little bronzer at the tops of my cheeks, or I can go for definition and brush a little under my cheekbone. Either way, I think it looks a whole lot more natural than pink powder.

Spanx
Yep. Still wearing and LOVING the Spanx. I’ve even bought another pair. I like the Higher Power model, which costs about $36. Honestly, I’d recommend Spanx for any woman of any size, because I remember very well that even at 112 pounds, I STILL hated the way I looked when I wasn’t sucking in, and a good pair of Spanx essentially does the sucking in for you. It also eliminates muffin top, which is worth its weight in gold.

Men’s Deodorant
I spent years trying out various women’s deodorants. I’d find one that did the trick, and then I’d have to move on to another one several months later, after my body apparently got used to it and it stopped working as well.
Then one day several years ago, I ran out of deodorant and used an extra that my husband had lying around. It worked better than any of my women’s deodorants ever have, and I’ve never had to switch brands. I use Right Guard Sport Clear gel, and it has never let me down.

So there you go. Use all of these tips at once, and I swear, you’ll be a goddess. Also, you’ll totally outshine me at the next social event, and I’ll rue the day I gave away all my beauty secrets. Make me feel better and tell me some of your own in the secrets. Pretty please?

Comments
I too am a fan of the sunless tanning sprays. They are more convenient than getting a mystic spraytan and you can control how dark you get.
One of my best secrets is the 30 second pedicure. Invest in some cuticle oil. Next time your nails are looking shabby just apply it and you're instantly revived. I use it in order to go longer in between pedicures.
Good tips. Thanks.
Sigh. You girls are probably too young to worry about errant chin hairs. (Call me when you turn forty!) I have found that Tweezerman tweezers are the best. I keep a pair in my car, as nothing reveals the hair you missed like your rear view mirror on a sunny day. Be careful at stoplights!
I have a Tweezerman, too, and I love the idea of tweezing in the car.
My mom, by the way, gets a manicure now every three weeks. She says it's called Pink and White, it costs $30 and it really does last three whole weeks. She said they put some kind of gel over the manicure that makes it last. I'm dying to try it.
Thanks for sharing ( especially the men's deoderant!)
Shu Uemura eyelash curler is the best I have ever used! I need to try it w/ the Ardell's :-)
But I'm wearing my Ardell's right now! Sometimes, I just need a little glamor to get me through the day. :)
I never thought of trying men's deodorant- I'll have to give it a go. I've had the same problem you described with women's deodorants!! I'm also going to check out that powder- I hate foundation!!
I too tweeze in the car- my husband things it's gross!! I just tell him "would you rather I had a beard??". That usually quiets him down :)

That is hilarious - the line about, "would you rather I had a beard?" I'm a tweezing fool - my husband gets these two really thick, long eyebrows that just emerge from his brow, and I wait till he's sleeping then snag them with my tweezers. Mean, but oh-so-satisfying!! And, sadly, Spirit, chin hairs have been in my life for some time, and I'm still six years from 40!! Part of life!
It's delightful to hear so many women talking about tweezing habits, in the car or otherwise. Each of these Beauty Uncensored posts gives me a lot to think about - I am now bent on trying out the powder foundation and the eyelashes. My husband has always said he wouldn't like the eyelashes because they're unnatural, but I believe I'll glue some on and see if he even notices... and if he does notice, perhaps he'll be so turned on he will not continue to care about the unnatural part!
and you use the short ones, he shouldn't notice. Be sure and get the black glue instead of the clear glue- the clear doesn't dry clear in my experience. And if the lashes are looking a little long, I just trim them with a small pair of scissors. I never have to do that with the short ones, though.
Ashley, I'm dying laughing imagining you tweezing your husband's eyebrows while he sleeps!
