Her Style
A green store closing causes me to get the blues
I am a big fan of Laurel Staples, the Nashville native who combined her shared passions for fashion and saving the environment to open a clothing boutique in late 2007. Other local stores may have stocked the occasional jean made of organic cotton or re-conditioned piece of vintage clothing before she opened her doors, but Ecology was the only place where you could be sure everything you were buying was good for our planet.
Vintage Fair in East Nashville this Saturday - RAIN OR SHINE!
Pretty picture, right?
You can check out this scene up close and personal this Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Vintage Fair I'm hosting at Fanny's House of Music, the East Nashville store that is also home to the second location of my second-hand clothing business, called Diamond Star Halo Vintage. (FYI: Until recently, it was known as Flora Vintage; I've had a bit of a name change!)
Trend! Black maxi dresses
I don't know what it is, but something is telling me that long, black dresses and skirts are going to be a huge trend this holiday season.
Already we have starlets like Kirsten Dunst wearing them to major Fashion Week parties like the Another Magazine fete last night. Check her out, wearing a bias cut maxi with a matching quilted jacket. Cool!
Fashion gets a dose of reality
Leave it to a reality TV mastermind to create what may be the best interactive fashion website ever.

Imogene + Willie = a true original
If you haven't visited the amazing 12South boutique that is imogene + willie, stop by tonight between 5 and 9 to check out their always-changing stock of Americana classics while enjoying a free performance by Caitlin Rose. The hungry among us will be happy to hear that Teresa Mason and her merry pastel Mas Tacos truck will be on hand to dole out Mexican delights (don't miss the quinoa!).
Target targets "Frugalistas"
I usually hate getting annoying emails from stores in my in-box; usually I unsubscribe or just dump them straight into my trash.
But this AM I was intrigued by a message from Target, aimed at us "Frugalistas," that announced their new online magazine, Styleboutique. The publication bears the tag line "inspiring ideas. easy chic for fashion and home. every friday."
Bebe meets Bowie
I haven't seen the movie Velvet Goldmine - director Todd Haynes' cinematic valentine to the glam rock movement's bi-continental (and bi-sexual, for that matter) progenitors David Bowie and Iggy Pop - since I went to the New York premiere back in 1998.
Two Elle opening in Hill Center this Thursday
Pretty excited to see what the new Two Elle location is going to offer.
Owner Rachel Lowe' original location in a darling house on 12th Ave. South established that her tastes run in a fun, funky and colorful vein where cute prints and skinny jeans rule and Converse sneakers come in every color of the rainbow - a look that will fit right in at the always-buzzing Hill Center (the new store is currently being installed in H. Audrey Home's old digs).
