Shop Local: Make Your List and Check it Twice
There’s no denying holiday shopping can be stressful. Often, people seem to forget about holiday cheer as they’re trying to beat you to the last space in the parking garage. We all dream of a shopping experience with no crowds, no lines, plenty of parking, friendly shopkeepers, and locally made, one-of-a-kind presents you can feel good about giving. Oh … and cocktails. Those always seem to make shopping more enjoyable.
Sound too good to be true? It’s not if you shop your local boutiques. Since we found our favorite places to buy gifts, our holiday shopping is a breeze and we’re going to let you in on a few of our gift-giving secrets.
For the Music Lover:
Know a Beatlemaniac or a Deadhead? Get them die-cut record art from Music City Minis at cityminis.com or at Fanny’s House of Music. Each classic album is cut into a shape representative of the artist or an iconic album, creating a one-of-a-kind piece that will be a welcome addition to anyone’s collection.
One Stop Local Gift Shop:
East Nashville’s Old Made Good, known for their “general badassery,” is packed with affordable, unique gift items including home goods, clothing and accessories. OMG gets the Stella Shops stamp of approval when it comes to gifting. If it comes from OMG, you know it’s going to rock.
For the Jewelry Lover:
We gift a lot of jewelry. For gorgeous statement necklaces, head to Serendipity for the steampunk inspired line, Re-Creating Juliette. We are in love with these wallet-friendly pieces.
Carla’s secret spot for locally made jewelry is Nest Interiors. Anita Schmadtke Designs and Sarah Stob are just two of the talented local jewelry lines that you’ll find here.
For the Party Host:
Tired of always bringing a bottle of wine to parties? Pick up some Alchemy of Sol soaps and candles at The Green Wagon in East Nashville. These wonderfully scented, all-natural products are handmade in Tennessee and make easy and affordable presents.
For another out-of-the-box hostess gift, check out Baby Bear Shop’s Cheeky Baby Butter and Lavender Vanilla Soy Wax Candle. Order direct from babybearshop.com and use checkout code ‘XOHER’ for free shipping, USA only, on orders over $40 through December 31st.
Gifts that Give Back:
Support local artists and artisans all over the world with gifts that give back. Ten Thousand Villages is the perfect place to start — this fair trade retailer gives artisans in developing countries the opportunity to earn a fair wage. The store is stocked with amazing gifts in all price ranges from around the globe.
In keeping with the spirit of fair trade, give a fashionAble scarf (pictured). Purchasing these stylish, affordable scarves helps create sustainable businesses for women in Africa. You can find them locally at Posh.
For the Fashionista:
Local Honey is the place to shop for unique apparel made by some of Nashville’s best designers. For something truly special, check out Jamie and the Jones or White Rabbit; many of their pieces are straight off the Nashville Fashion Week and nD Festival runways. For the guys, pick up a piece of vintage-inspired Tidwell and Perryman.
And Don’t Forget the Pooches!
Our dogs like presents, too! The pups literally drool over the homemade iced cookies from See Spot Eat. They’ll do anything for Paw-tinis and Jimmy Chews.

Childbirth is one of the most magical of life's experiences.
