A recent survey conducted by Jooners.com, a time management website for busy moms, estimates that mothers have about seven hours of personal time per week. The survey of over 200 moms also found those mothers spend 24.7 hours each week managing family responsibilities.

If by “personal” they mean, seven hours to personally catch up on laundry, ironing, basic health and fitness, vacuuming, hygiene (I’m lucky if I have time to shave my legs some weeks!), scheduling doctor, dentist and orthodontist appointments, updating my wardrobe to this century, buying miscellaneous gifts (and wrapping them and writing out cards!), balancing the checkbook, searching for index cards, poster board and pocket folders (with and without brads, of course), writing so I can continue my passion, meet my deadlines and contribute financially, and all the other responsibilities a mother has to personally tend to the rest of her waking hours, then okay.

Otherwise, who are these 200 moms? They must’ve been gorilla moms or grasshopper moms, because I don’t know ANY human moms (with kids still at home) who have seven weekly hours of personal time…just for her…without interruption… to do as she please…without having to stop off here, or drop that there, or remember this, or bring back that, or pick up something.

The average mom spends more than seven hours a week looking for soccer cleats and picking up wet towels from the floor! Surely there are better surveys for moms. Like, how many tasks can the average mother perform at one time or how many times in a day do they forgo their own needs to take care of a child’s, husband’s, parent's, neighbor’s or friend’s needs first. Personally, I’d like to see those surveys!
