I've seen it more than once in my marketing career (twice as a matter of fact). The eager young college student submits his or her resume, seeking "a career in pubic relations." It's an easy mistake (I guess?), but you have to wonder ... did these people proofread?

Lord knows typos can trip up the best of us, but still I was hesitant to hire these budding pubic relations stars (despite their "excellent people skills" and "proven leadership abilities"). According to Job Mob's 150 Funniest Resume Mistakes (Chic Geek, you'll love this), it could have been soooo much worse. Take, for example, the person who took a career break in 1999 to renovate his horse.

I wonder if the prospective employer gave that one a yay or a neigh.

Thanks, Mflynn!

Yes, Margie, I think Mr. “Time is very valuable and it should be always used to achieve optimum results and I believe it should not be played around with” is destined for management.

Do I have some query letters I could show you two. Yes, the answer is yes!, indeed I do. Would-be writers don't seem to realize how much weight their query letters carry with folks in the book publishing business. If you can't get a letter right, how can we trust you with an entire manuscript? (Herein ends the lecture for the day.)
