How to Spend the Weekend?
My suspicion is that for the foreseeable future, most of Nashville will either be cleaning out or helping others to do so. Which is 100 percent the way it should be, in my humble opinion. HOWEVER, I'm sure others have plans to attend Steeplechase, which is fine particularly because it's A) a benefit for the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt, and B) they're donating some proceeds to flood relief, which is the redemption for a day of festivities and overindulgence so soon after tragedy. Moving on...
If you're in the mood to be out and about while still doing some good for flood victims, there are tons of benefits cropping up by the minute. A few I recommend:
Dr. Dog with Deer Tick at Mercy Lounge tonight - May 6 - at 9 p.m. at Cannery Ballroom. A portion of proceeds go to flood relief. Doors open at 8 p.m.
Musicians on Call Flood Relief Benefit takes place at 3rd and Lindsley tonight, May 6, at 6 p.m.
The Jack Silverman Ordeal plays the Family Wash on Friday, May 7 at 9:30 p.m. One hundred percent of donations will go to The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee's Metro Nashville Disaster Response Fund.
The 39th Annual TACA Fair in Centennial Park is doubling as a flood victim donation point. Donate by cash, check, or credit card. PLUS Second Harvest Food Bank will have food collection boxes on site as well to gather canned food and non-perishables.
Zanies Flood Relief Special: Free Chris Porter Tix for: May 6 at 7:30 p.m.; May 7 at 7:30 and 9:45 p.m.; and May 9 at 7:30 p.m.
Free Community Concert: Christopher Cross and the Nashville Symphony play a free show on Nashville's Public Square tomorrow, May 7 at 8 p.m. Parking is free too courtesy of Metro Government.
Nashville Flood Benefit Show features some comedians, musicians and more to benefit Hands On Nashville, Red Cross and other relief orgs. Show starts at 10 p.m. at Exit/In.
Eat Out For Nashville is on May 17. Participating restaurants will donate 50 percent of their proceeds from diners that day to flood relief. Learn more about which restaurants are participating here.
Her Datebook

Secretly, in the back of her closet, Rebekah Davis owned a bathing suit. But she would have never worn it. Especially not in front of strangers.
