iPhone 3.0 is here, people!
I'm sure you know about the new and improved iPhone coming out tomorrow, but did you know that current iPhone 3G owners have something fabulous to look forward to as well? Apple released an updated version of the 3G software yesterday and it's available in iTunes to all iPhone 3G owners. GO GET IT. NOW.
How? Hook up your phone to your computer like you are going to sync your phone or download the new Dave Matthews Band album; your iTunes should detect your phone and let you know about the update.
Things to be excited about:
CUT AND PASTE! Praise the Lord! The most common sense, but oddly absent feature is now available with the software update. Woo Hoo!
Landscape keyboard! This one is not that big of a deal for me, but I know lots of folks were anxiously awaiting this one. I like a smaller surface because my hands are tiny; however, folks with normal-sized hands will surely enjoy the more forgiving, larger keyboard.
Find my phone! For Mobile Me users, there is this AMAZING "find my phone" feature, which allows you to log into Mobile Me and ask it to locate your phone. When it locates your phone - ON A MAP! - you then have the option of sending your phone a message and asking it to play a sound for two hours; you can even wipe your phone clean to prevent some thief from seeing your email, contacts, embarrassing photos, texts, etc.
The phone-finding feature is really amazing. I've often wondered what would happen if someone stole - or I misplaced - my precious. Now I know!
Keep in mind, you have to initiate this update. You won't receive these cool features if you don't hook up your phone and start the process.
And as an FYI, my phone completely locked up the first time, so I unplugged it from the computer and started over -- the second time was a charm!
As for MMS picture messaging, this phone still ain't got it. It's not Apple's fault: it's on the phone - we just can't use it because the AT&T network can't handle it. (Thanks, guys!) I hear we may be able to picture message by the fall -- fingers crossed!
Oh -- and about the photo down there: I know it's not rotated correctly, but I can't upload it landscape and I really wanted you to see the new features. Just tilt your computer :)
